PETALING JAYA: Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin apologized on behalf of the government to Sabahan student Veveonah Mosibin for recent comments made about her by two deputy ministers.

Khairy said he apologized after meeting Veveonah at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).

“On behalf of the government, I apologize to her and her family,” he said in a Twitter post.

He said that he had proposed that Veveonah collaborate with Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia to establish innovative projects in his village.

Yesterday, Khairy said the cabinet agreed that recent comments from Deputy Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Bakri and Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia Zahidi Zainul Abidin that the 18-year-old faked her online exam to getting views of his video were wrong and unreasonable.

“The Cabinet agrees that the real problem is Internet coverage and other basic facilities, especially in rural areas. The government will work as hard as it can to fix this, ”he said.

Last week, Zahidi accused Veveonah of being a YouTuber and faking her exam online to get views for her video channel. She later apologized to Veveonah and said she had received “inaccurate information” on the matter.

However, Rahim, in a Facebook post two days ago, said that Veveonah lived in the city and that his family no longer had a house in the kampung, where he claimed to have climbed a tree to sit for the exam.

His post accusing Veveonah of deliberately creating drama to get attention and publicity caused quite a stir among netizens. This led Rahim to later delete the post.

UMS President Masidi Manjun has since verified that Veveonah had taken his last semester exams online in June.
