PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (KeTSA) is introducing the Net Energy Metering (NEM) 3.0 program to provide an opportunity for more users to install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on the roofs of their respective buildings to reduce the electricity bill. .
Minister Datuk Dr. Shamsul Anuar Nasarah (pix) said that NEM3.0 would offer a quota of 500 megawatts (MW) from 2021 to 2023.
The NEM 3.0 program comprises three initiatives: NEM Rakyat Program, NEM GoMEn Program (Ministries and Government Entities) and NOVA Program (Virtual Aggregation of Net Compensation).
“The government hopes that the implementation of NEM 3.0 will allow more Malaysians, government agencies, places of worship, as well as local businesses and entrepreneurs to get involved in the country’s renewable energy development agenda, as well as reduce electricity bills to mitigate the impact. from the Covid-19 pandemic, “he said in a statement here today.
Shamsul Anuar said that the NEM Rakyat program was introduced as only five percent of the applications under the NEM 2.0 program were home users who could enjoy the reduction of the electricity bill by installing photovoltaic solar energy.
Shamsul Anuar said that the NEM Rakyat program will maintain the concept of compensation rate “one to one” with a quota of 100 MW or until all quotas are exhausted and between 10,000 and 25,000 national account holders of Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) or between 40,000 and 100,000 homes on the peninsula will enjoy reduced electricity bills.
“Consumers will enjoy the one-to-one compensation rate for 10 years and savings on the electricity bill through the concept of self-consumption after the period ends,” he said, adding that requests can be made to the Development Authority. of Sustainable Energy (SEDA) from February 1, 2021 to December 31, 2023.
For the NEM GoMEn program, he said that it aims to reduce electricity bills in government buildings with a 100 MW quota and around 100 government agencies on the peninsula will enjoy a reduction amounting to RM6 million per month.
Shamsul Anuar said that the NOVA program would help entrepreneurs, local businesses and places of worship reduce electricity bills and the cost of doing business.
Applications for the NOVA Program will be open from April 1, 2021 to December 31, 2023 or until all fees have been distributed. -Called
