Keningau in Sabah will spend tomorrow under MCO

PETALING JAYA: Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that the Keningau district in Sabah will be subject to a movement control order (MCO) starting tomorrow.

This follows an increase in Covid-19 cases, with 42 recorded cases of specific screenings in Kg Lingkudau, currently under an enhanced motion control order (EMCO).

The MCO is scheduled to last until April 4.

In a statement, Ismail also announced that the EMCO affecting Kg Tanah Merah in Kota Marudu, Sabah, will end tomorrow, as scheduled.

The Ministry of Health identified 26 cases of Covid-19 of the 65 selective examinations carried out in the town. The ministry also confirmed that the number of positive cases was decreasing.

Meanwhile, speaking about yesterday’s arrests, Ismail said that 100 people were detained, 97 of whom were asked to pay compound fines. Three were sent to preventive detention.

The crimes included non-compliance with the rules of physical distancing (48), failure to provide materials for contact tracing or customer registration (27), participating in activities in entertainment centers (12), not wearing face masks ( 11) and crossing state or district borders without permission (two).

Ismail also said authorities captured 13 illegal immigrants and seized seven vehicles as part of the ongoing Op Benteng.

Law enforcement agencies had installed 267 barricades as part of border surveillance operations.
