PETALING JAYA: Keep calm and do your best, Education Minister Datuk Dr. Mohd Radzi Md Jidin wishes candidates for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2020.

With just one day left before exams start far behind on Monday (February 22), he said it’s normal to feel anxious and worried.

“The important thing is how we handle this nervousness.

“It’s time to stay calm as the test date approaches and recognize that the effort you put in is different from your peers.

“Just know that you have done your best at the end of the day,” he said, reminding candidates that SPM is not the whole and the end of life.

Mohd Radzi spoke during an interview session on DidikTV to address SPM 2020 students on Saturday (February 20).

The candidates for SPM 2020, he said, are a special group of students because of the challenges they faced due to the Covid-19 pandemic and for taking a major exam amid the pandemic.

After assuring parents that the ministry has taken all precautionary measures before the exam, Mohd Radzi said that even the standard operating procedures of the exam are different this time.

“During exams like SPM, the distance between tables would be 0.8 m. This time, due to the pandemic, we have increased it to 1.5 million.

“We have extensively discussed how to ensure that candidates sit for the exam in a safe environment.”

He also said that the scoring of the SPM 2020 exams will be conducted online to shorten the exam grading period and ensure that the publication of the candidates’ results is not delayed any longer and that they can enter the university on time.

The only job that will not be marked online is Visual Arts.

“We have very dedicated teachers who are committed to ensuring the best for their students.

“When the SPM 2020 exam was postponed, teachers who had opted for early retirement requested that their application be delayed in order to be able to engage with their students,” he added.

A total of 401,105 SPM 2020 candidates will sit for the exams this year.

In a statement released Saturday, the Examinations Syndicate said there are 3,310 examination centers and 48,014 exam proctors for the exam.

He reminded candidates to refer to the exam calendar for information on dates, time, exam codes and documents, and instructions to be followed during the exam.

“The schedule can be downloaded from our website at http://lp.moe.gov.my.

“Candidates are reminded to bring their identification documents and exam registration statement to the test center,” he said, adding that candidates must comply with the Public Examinations and Central Assessments guide and the Administration and Operations guide. Schoolchildren under the New Standard 2.0.
