PETALING JAYA: The war of words involving Kedah Menteri Besar, MIC and DAP over the demolition of temples appears to have gotten out of hand with the leaders attacking each other.
Muhammed Sanusi Md Nor, who is from PAS, had yesterday accused his critics of speaking under the influence of alcohol and toddy.
Q Ramasamy, who is the Second Vice Minister of Penang, retaliated today by asking if Sanusi was drugged when acting against the temple.
Sanusi said yesterday that while the MIC and DAP were quick to address the issue of temple demolitions, they were silent on the demolition of structures belonging to Malays.
In the process, he had commented that the leaders were “drinking a bottle of toddy but pretending that two had been consumed.”
He had also accused them of failing to report the actual events behind two Hindu temple demolitions in the span of a few months.
An angry Ramasamy described the analogy with Sanusi’s toddy drink as improper and not as something expected of a mentor kissing.
“The mere fact that it could reach this level speaks volumes about the caliber, quality and competence of Sanusi’s leadership.
“Political and ideological differences are expected from the leaders, but no comments about opposition leaders getting drunk and inciting ethnic or religious tensions,” Ramasamy said in a statement today.
He asked if Sanusi associated Indians with toddy drinking, wasn’t it too much for him to say that Sanusi was drugged with ganja and heroin in the demolition of Hindu temples?
“Is it fit to provide crucial political leadership to the state? I don’t have to get high with alcohol like toddy to assume the religious and cultural rights of the Indians in the country.
“I am defending the rights of my community against those like Sanusi who are drunk on racial and religious extremism,” he added.
He advised Sanusi not to play with fire destroying Hindu temples and places of worship on the grounds that they were built illegally.
