ALOR SETAR: Kedah has no plans to call early elections as the current administration is stable.

Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said that it is unwise to waste time or resources in a state election when a parliamentary election would suffice.

“We are ready for a parliamentary election. At the state level, the government has 23 seats and the opposition 13. So far it has been easy, “he told reporters while presenting his” first 100 days in office “report card at Seri Mentaloon here today.

There are 23 members of Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the 36-member Kedah assembly. PAS has 15 seats, PPBM four and Umno and independents, two each.

However, he said that should the central leadership of the PN push for the dissolution of the state assembly, it would comply with the council.

Previously, Sanusi launched the Kedah Plan 2035 with the theme “Prospering the state and making it livable.”

The development plan will see the 12 districts in the state focusing on industries such as agriculture and bio-industries.

He said the state would also strengthen its credentials as the country’s rice bowl by increasing its padi production and pushing for niche plantations such as blackthorn and corn durians.

He also said that 300ha of kenaf plantations will be sought to help marginalized communities, along with up to 1,000ha of bamboo plantations that could produce about 14,000 ringgit per hectare.

Other highlights of the plan are to move the plastic recycling factories from Sungai Petani to Bukit Selambau, apparently due to contamination concerns, and to permanently shut down the troublesome Semeling landfill, which has often caught fire over the years.
