KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 51 patrons at a karaoke center in Jalan Ipoh received compounds for violating the conditional MCO.

Patrons, including 15 women, were busy partying in more than 15 rooms downtown when police raided the facility around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday (December 24).

Saiful Annuar Yusoff, the head of the Kuala Lumpur CID, said customers used the back entrance rather than the front to make the facility appear to be down.

“We raided the karaoke center based on information provided by the public, who were suspicious of many vehicles using the back alley late at night.

“We investigated and it is true that the center was operational, but it allowed customers to use only the rear entrance,” he said after leading the police operation on Thursday.

SAC Saiful Annuar said the clients, ages 29 to 53, were busy singing and partying, not adhering to conditional MCO standard operating procedures when the raid took place.

“Clients received compounds.

“We also detained two Indonesian women, aged 29 and 39, as well as a local, who was the manager of the premises,” he said.

The center will also be monitored to ensure it does not start operating again, said SAC Saiful Annuar.

“The center operated without a license, but we do not rule out the possibility that it used a business license for restaurant and bistro.

“We also seized several items, including business receipts, an amplifier and a microphone,” he said, adding that two men and three women were also arrested for testing positive for drugs.
