Jurgen Klopp offers Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain an update as Liverpool’s injuries begin to ease

Jurgen Klopp has provided a positive update on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who looks “really promising” as he intensifies his rehab at Liverpool’s AXA Training Center.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has not played for the Reds since sustaining a serious knee injury during their preseason camp in Austria.

The 27-year-old’s absence has been painfully felt in central midfield, where Liverpool have also seen Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, James Milner and Thiago Alcantara succumb to injuries.

Klopp’s options at this position have been further limited by Fabinho’s move as central defender, as the natural midfielder continues to replace the central defender due to injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.

Oxlade-Chamberlain scored eight goals in 43 appearances last season

The Reds manager was delighted at the prospect of welcoming Oxlade-Chamberlain to first-team action soon, although the clash with the Wolves will come too soon for the former Arsenal star.

“Ox looks really promising, but that’s obviously [not for now]Klopp said before Sunday’s Premier League game.

“He’s doing a lot of things, he’s warming up with the team now, some work with the ball, a lot of things.

“But we’ll develop it now in the next few days, and then we’ll see when it makes sense to include it. It’s not too far off.”

After a catastrophic start to the season in which 15 first-team stars have suffered injuries or tested positive for coronavirus, there appears to be light at the end of the tunnel for Liverpool.

Klopp is hoping to have right back Trent Alexander-Arnold and midfielder Keita back for the Wolves game after the pair suffered hamstring injuries last month.

Elsewhere, Captain Henderson and left-back Andy Robertson were able to participate in training despite suffering blows in a 1-0 win over Ajax on Tuesday.
