Jurgen Klopp believes that Liverpool are not always recognized for their tactical versatility as they prepare for another battle of wits with their Arsenal counterpart Mikel Arteta.
The Reds face the Gunners for the third time in less than three months when they meet in the Premier League at Anfield on Monday.
Liverpool were beaten 2-1 at the Emirates in July after claiming the title, then lost to the Community Shield on penalties last month after a 1-1 draw at Wembley.
The teams will meet again on Thursday in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, meaning that four of Liverpool’s 15 competitive games behind closed doors will have come against Londoners.
Arteta, who took over as Arsenal manager last December, has introduced a more defensive style that was key to their FA Cup triumph last season.
And when asked if Liverpool were happy to stick to one way of playing, Klopp said: “I’m not sure if it’s non-negotiable. Yes, we have an identity and we stick to that. Games too.
“I think it’s normal for other teams to adapt to us. We do it with other teams as well, but in a different way.”
“I know that Chelsea (whom Liverpool beat 2-0 last weekend) defend against us differently than against many other teams. That could be due to the results we got in the last few games, but generally in possession. They do what they do, I want to do.
“On defense, we could see how they tried to react to our full-backs and things like this. It’s the way Frank (Lampard) faces us.”

Liverpool switched from a 4-3-3 formation to a 4-2-2-2 during the Community Shield against Arsenal and has also employed a 4-2-3-1 approach in recent seasons.
And Klopp said: “We adapt too. Not so much in terms of system, but in different positions we try to make sure the other team can’t do exactly what they want.”
“We think we have a wide range in the way we play, to be honest. I’m not sure if that’s obvious. But intensity is always part of it.
“There is absolutely no reason not to be intense and, in fact, we think we have no chance of succeeding if we are not intense.”
“We can’t just play like another team and save some energy at this or that moment. We have to do what we have to do with a lot of intensity and I’m pretty sure the guys would say the same, to be 100% honest.”
