Jurgen Klopp admits biggest fear for Liverpool in second half of Premier League season

Jurgen Klopp fears Anfield will be silent again.

But he insists that Merseyside clubs have not been given a significant advantage by avoiding the lockdown restrictions that have taken over the rest of the Premier League.

Two thousand fans will cheer on Liverpool again when the champions take on West Brom today.

The Reds and local rivals Everton are the only clubs that can still open their doors to fans after the government kept the area at Level Two.

But Klopp feels it is only a matter of time before control of the pandemic in Merseyside is strengthened again.

He said: “With the new tier system, it doesn’t seem very likely that the stadium will stay open, huh? There are still bigger problems, and as long as the decision makers allow us to bring in people, that is a very good sign.

Klopp fears Liverpool fans will soon be excluded from Anfield again

“The moment they say that it is no longer possible, then we must wait for the next moment when it is possible again.

“As a club, it is not that we had anything to do with the decision. Says something good about the Liverpool crowd probably as we had early massive testing.

“I’m not a specialist so I don’t know exactly how influential that was. Maybe other clubs will talk about it and complain, but I don’t see it as a great advantage. It’s just better, and that’s the truth, and I understand that everyone else wants to have the same.

“If we have 2,000 fans and no one else has 100 or whatever, then yeah, I can imagine people will talk about it.

Two thousand fans attended Liverpool’s victories over Wolves and Tottenham, with the same attendance allowed for the West Brom game

“But from my point of view, it may still be the way we can keep people in the stadium.

“Never in my life will I take a full stadium for granted, 100%.”

It has been a bittersweet year for Liverpool. Klopp ended the club’s 30-year wait for the title in a sensational fashion, but his players lifted the Premier League trophy in an empty stadium.

The Liverpool manager insists he will still carry precious memories of the way his team gave their fans something to smile about in unique circumstances.

Klopp said: “I will remember it as a special year. People have told me: ‘My God, they are champions in 2020 when nobody could celebrate’, but I see things the other way around.

“Can you imagine this year being like this and not being champions? Then the year would really be silly.

Klopp has been able to hand Liverpool fans the title in a difficult year

“In a very difficult year for the world, we created highlights for our fans, for ourselves, for our families and friends.

“I had many experiences that I did not want in my life, but we created memories that I will never forget for good reasons.

“That is what I want to remember about this year.

“Never before in my life, at midnight on New Years Eve, will I be as serious as when I wish you all a better 2021.”
