PETALING JAYA: The Department of Road Transport (JPJ) will resume full counter operations, including those of the Pos Malaysia branches, on Monday (May 18), says Transport Minister Datuk Seri, Dr. Wee Ka Siong .

“Right now, JPJ staff across the country are making final preparations for full operations to begin, including ensuring that safety and health requirements are met,” he said in a statement released on Thursday (14 of may).

He added that JPJ was also coordinating with banks to ensure that their services will return to normal next week.

Dr. Wee noted that prior to this, JPJ had been opening its counters in phases following the Government’s decision to open the economy under the Conditional Movement Control (MCO) order for specific issues until May 17.

“JPJ will also operate seven days a week to allow back issues to be resolved as soon as possible to avoid congestion for existing individual and business clients.

“This operation will continue until an arrest warrant is issued later,” he added.

He said JPJ will operate between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays and between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on weekends, adding that the hours of operation are 8 a.m. at 1 p.m.

He added that cash payments for all matters at JPJ branches would only be allowed between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m., while non-cash payments or electronic payments through debit or credit cards will be accepted between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Dr. Wee reminded the public that private vehicle owners are still subject to the renewal of driver’s licenses and motorcycle licenses under the MCO on the condition that they are covered by valid insurance.

He said JPJ counters would close for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations from May 23 to 26 and will resume operations on May 27.

He reminded the public and JPJ staff to adhere to the standard operating procedures of the Ministry of Health to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
