PETALING JAYA: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will reopen three more services related to driving licenses, and its counters will be operating seven days a week until further notice.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said the three services that can be conducted at JPJ counters starting Wednesday (May 13) are:
1: The issuance of Vehicle Ownership Certificates (VOC) and motor vehicle road tax for the first-time transfer of ownership and new registrations;
2: The biometric verification of new owners, or buyers, for the voluntary transfer of ownership for private vehicles; and
3: International driving license applications.
He said the move is in line with the government’s implementation of the conditional movement control order (MCO).
Dr Wee added that JPJ counters will be operating for seven days a week starting May 15 in Kedah, Johor, Kelantan and Terengganu.
For the rest of the country, such operating times will start on May 16.
“The seven-day-a-week operating times will continue until further notice is issued.
“However, such operating times will not apply for public holidays,” I said in a statement Tuesday (May 12).
For states that observe Saturday and Sunday as weekends (Friday for Kedah, Johor, Kelantan and Terengganu), transaction hours will be from 8am until 1pm, with only e-payment options accepted for payment.
“The objective of the new operating times is to enable deferred transactions to be resolved as soon as possible, besides preventing overcrowding,” he said.
I added that members of the public will be screened and they are told to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) of the Health Ministry.
