PETALING JAYA: The counters of the Department of Road Transport (JPJ) will reopen today after being closed from March 20 after the introduction of the movement control order (MCO).

In a statement on his Facebook page, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Wee Ka Siong said three JPJ services would also be offered along with the reopening.

The first service is related to the first issuance of the Vehicle Ownership Certificate (VOC) and the motor vehicle circulation tax (LKM) for the transfer of ownership and new registrations.

The second refers to the biometric verification of new owners or buyers under the voluntary transfer of ownership of private vehicles, while the third is the application for an International Driving Permit.

He said the measure is in line with the government’s implementation of the conditional MCO.

Dr. Wee added that JPJ counters will be operating seven days a week starting May 15 for Kedah, Johor, Kelantan and Terengganu, while the other states will enjoy such services starting May 16.

“The seven-day-a-week deal, with the exception of holidays, will continue until further notice,” it said in a statement yesterday.

For states that observe Saturday and Sunday as a weekend (Friday for Kedah, Johor, Kelantan, and Terengganu), transaction hours will be 8 a.m. at 1 p.m., with only accepted electronic payment options for payment.

“The goal for seven-day-a-week operating times is to allow deferred transactions to be resolved as quickly as possible, in addition to avoiding overcrowding,” he added.

Dr. Wee reminded people to observe all hygiene protocols, including social distancing and compliance with the standard operating procedure established by the Ministry of Health.
