JPDP Opens Research Papers on Six Online Money Loan Applications

PUTRAJAYA: The Personal Data Protection Department (PDPD) has opened investigative papers on six unlicensed money loan applications that are suspected of misusing personal data.

The six apps are Asialend, Dreamlend, iPayfren, iPinjaman, Helplend4u, and GoCash4u.

PDPD in a statement said today that the investigative documents were opened under Section 5 of the 2010 Personal Data Protection Act. [Act 709], with the assistance of CyberSecurity Malaysia and the Malaysian Communications Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

If found guilty, the six entities (data users) can face a fine of no more than RM300,000 or a prison term of no more than two years or both.

“All of these online applications were found to have accessed and copied people’s information, including personal information not related to loans, without the consent of the borrowers,” the statement read.

Those whose personal data has been misused by such unlicensed online money loan applications are urged to contact the PDPD compliance division via email [email protected] or the Protection System of personal data (daftar.pdp.gov.my) to aid in investigations. .

The PDPD advises Malaysians to be more careful when applying for loans online, especially when granting downloaded applications permission to access information to prevent personal data from being misused by irresponsible parties.

Those interested in applying for loans online are advised to check with the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, Division of Community Credit Control to verify the registration status of the online money loan application, the department said. -Called
