KUALA LUMPUR: The government has agreed to implement a salary adjustment for contracted medical officers from grade UD41 to UD43, Health Minister Dr. Adham Baba said.
At a press conference after the presentation of Budget 2021 in Parliament yesterday, he said that the Ministry of Health also plans to absorb the staff hired in the ministry as full-time staff after the salary adjustment takes place.
“They (UD41) will receive the salary level of UD43, compared to permanent medical officers in UD44,” he said. In previous reports, the government had said this would involve some 2,000 medical officers.
Along these lines, Adham said the government also planned to send local medical officers to serve in England, adding that the terms and conditions for the program were being formulated.
He said that this measure would allow the agents involved to be promoted, in addition to training them as medical specialists.
When asked about the government’s commitment to sourcing Covid-19 vaccines, Adham said that in addition to joining the global Covid-19 vaccine allocation plan, Covax, the government was also forging bilateral agreements with various other candidate vaccines to source. access.
He added that once the vaccine is obtained, priority will be given to those on the first line, as well as high-risk groups such as children.
“Access to the vaccine is expected in the first quarter of next year,” he said.
