Jordan Henderson’s reaction to Sadio Mane’s pass sums up the kind of leader he is

One of the only positives about the lack of fans in stadiums amid the coronavirus pandemic has been the opportunity to hear exactly what kind of communication occurs between players on the field.

And one man who is certainly not shy about expressing his point of view is Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson.

The 30-year-old has earned a reputation for being one of the most vocal leaders in the Premier League and can be heard regularly yelling orders at his teammates.

But Henderson seems to favor the carrot approach over the stick approach, tending to offer encouragement far more often than criticism.

Jordan Henderson once again showed his leadership skills against Atalanta

This was particularly evident during the 5-0 win against Atalanta in the Champions League on Tuesday night, and the Liverpool official Twitter account posted a video montage of some of Henderson’s best battle cries.

With the Reds leading 4-0 and Diogo Jota in a hat-trick, Sadio Mane played the Portuguese forward with a superb pass that allowed him to complete his hat-trick.

And Henderson’s reaction was to yell in admiration: “Oh, what up! What up!” before he is heard celebrating with joy as Jota places it at home.

Young Curtis Jones started the match and Henderson took it upon himself to help guide the 19-year-old.

In an aerial duel he may hear yelling, “Come in Curtis, head in!”, While after a defensive block he says, “Brilliant, Curtis!” and during a throw-in Atalanta advises him: “Stay with him, Curtis, stay with him!”

Despite his convincing victory, Henderson never allowed the pace to slow down, and during a slow period of play he yelled, “Energy! Moving it, fast! Keep it moving!”

And he also had words of praise for center back Joe Gomez, with: “Well done Joe!” and “Win, Joe! I love it!” two regular interjections.

Reds fans will love what they’ve seen of Henderson, and it’s no wonder he’s starting to become an idol among the fan base given the enormous influence he clearly has over the team.

He will have to be at his best if his team wants to get something out of their big game against Manchester City on Sunday.
