Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson and goalkeeper Alisson said goodbye to the club’s training base as the Reds enjoyed one final session before taking on Manchester City on Sunday.

The Reds will move to their new £ 50 million base in Kirkby after the international break, meaning that Saturday was the last time Jurgen Klopp’s players trained at the historic Melwood.

Henderson shared a series of black and white photos of him walking through training ground on Twitter, with the caption: ‘One last time …’ and a red heart emoji.

The Liverpool captain was involved in the design process of the new complex alongside his teammate James Milner, according to The Athletic.

Goalkeeper Alisson also posted a photo on his Instagram story with the caption: ‘Last day at Melwood! I will keep some good memories of this place!

Melwood has been home to Liverpool for the past 70 years, but now it will be converted into a home. The first team will now join the academy in Kirkby.

The Reds showed the completed site of their new, state-of-the-art training base, which includes three full-size courts and an indoor sports hall, in late October.

The 9,200m2 Training Center also has two gyms, a swimming pool, hydrotherapy facilities and sports rehabilitation.

Klopp’s office, meanwhile, will have a balcony overlooking the training grounds, allowing the Reds boss to keep an eye on all the action.

Liverpool first announced its intention to move to Kirkby, where the academy is currently located, in 2017 with Klopp feeling constrained by the lack of space at Melwood.

“I really love Melwood, but football changes,” Klopp said in 2017, when news of the change emerged. ‘We cannot avoid this. We cannot stay as usual and we hope to be able to face the other clubs.

“Sometimes you have to set standards. It’s really good that our owners are giving us the opportunity to take this big step in the future. Twenty-five years ago, Melwood set the bar. In those 25 years a lot happened.

“It’s fantastic but we don’t have room for anything. If we want to have one more office, we don’t know where to go. That is the situation. Uniting the Academy and the first team is a point, but it is also about improving many things that we cannot improve here. It will only be good for the future of the club. I really believe that the infrastructure maintains responsibility.

‘Staying here for the next 25 years would not be good for the club. Right now we have the idea and the opportunity to do something so we have to wait to see when we can say “yes, take the next step and get started.”
