JOHOR BARU: Ruling Sultan Johor Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar has expressed disappointment at the attitude of some people in Mersing for not keeping the district clean.
Sultan Ibrahim said that Mersing, which is a tourist destination, not only attracts visitors from abroad, but is also a district rich in natural beauty.
He stressed that if this attitude continues, it will also have a negative impact on public health.
“It saddens me very much to see what I have seen in some of the areas visited. What happened to Mersing? It should be a tourist spot, but when tourists arrive, they are greeted with garbage.
“Aren’t we ashamed if we invite people into our own home but the situation is not pretty to look at? Change your behavior and get rid of the dirty attitude,” he said on his Facebook page on Tuesday (December 29).
He added that Mersing should emulate Muar when it received the title of Cleanest Tourist City from the Asean in 2018.
“Mersing has great potential for further development in the ecotourism sector and is also the main gateway to the surrounding tourist islands.
“I have many ideas for attracting investment and progress for the sector in Mersing, but people also have a role to play in keeping it clean here. Nobody wants to visit a dirty place, ”he said.
He also urged local authorities to enforce the precincts effectively so that people are more disciplined.
