JOHOR BAHRU: Johor police arrested 716 people, including 532 migrants and 184 captains, in operations between April and December last year aimed at addressing the problem of migrant smuggling in the state.
Johor Police Chief Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said that of the total, 77 suspects, including 19 law enforcement officers, had been prosecuted for organized crimes under the Security Crimes (Special Measures) Act of 2012 and six others under the Crime Prevention Act of 1959 (POCA). .
According to the Johor Police Performance Report for 2020 and the Johor Police Chief’s message that was distributed to the media today, five senior officers and 225 police officers were subject to disciplinary action last year.
Of the total, he said that one high-ranking officer and 43 staff members were charged in court, four high-ranking officers and 53 staff members were intercepted from service, 12 employees were suspended and 46 employees were fired due to crimes. of drugs and misconduct.
“Last year, the state Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) managed to arrest 19,013 suspects for various drug-related crimes and seized 2,765 kilograms of drugs worth RM33 million and RM14 million property “, said.
According to Ayob Khan, the state NCID also resolved 22,000 unsolved cases between 2011 and 2019.
Meanwhile, the state CID managed to resolve 3,960 or 53.88 percent of the 7,350 criminal cases, thus exceeding the stipulated key performance indicator (KPI) of 45 percent.
In an attempt to combat prostitution, he said Johor police conducted 2,745 Op Dadu raids last year, compared to 2,185 in 2019, and arrested 4,579 suspects and seized RM1.35 million.
“In efforts to prevent and eliminate property crime cases in the state, the police carried out various operations, such as Op Lejang, Op Pintu and Op Rentap, and caught 3,613 suspects. Of the total, 1,793 of them have been charged in court, while another 86 were prosecuted under the POCA, ”he said.
Ayob Khan said the Commercial CID achieved a KPI of 95 percent, surpassing the target of 85 percent, following the arrest of 2,326 suspects.
Meanwhile, the state’s Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department conducted 3,504 operations last year and captured 1,710 people.
