KOTA ISKANDAR: Johor can conduct more than 2,000 Covid-19 tests daily for those going to and from Singapore under the Reciprocal Green Lane (RGL) and the Periodic Travel Agreement (PCA), the state assembly was told.

Grand Minister Datuk Hasni Mohammad (Photo) said that as of Aug. 31, 320 people have traveled to and from Singapore under the RGL, while another 8,270 under the PCA.

“If this system is successful, I am confident that the Federal Government will open the border between Johor and Singapore in a normal way with planned and effective standard operating procedures (SOPs),” he added.

Hasni was responding to Andrew Chen Kah Eng (PH-Stulang) at the Johor state assembly meeting here in Kota Iskandar on Thursday (September 10).

He noted that to ensure that standard operating procedures are adhered to and carried out correctly, the government has taken proactive steps by coordinating the involvement of front-line agencies.

“The state government has spent around RM500,000 to support this initiative in which we have government and private laboratories available.

“We can conduct more than 2,000 tests a day,” he said, adding that the state government is committed to thinking about the best steps to solve the border problems between Malaysia and Singapore.

Hasni said that border issues require cooperation on a global stage that must be comprehensively planned to obtain an inclusive outcome for all, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
