PETALING JAYA: The Department of Public Works (JKR) has confirmed that one of its officers, who later tested positive for Covid-19, was in Parliament House on September 10, during a Senate meeting.
JKR said the officer had attended the settlement debate of the royal speech.
Traditionally, a minister or deputy minister closes the debate in Parliament.
It is not known how many senators had come into contact with the officer. He was present in the building five days before it was confirmed that he was infected with Covid-19.
The officer was admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital on September 16. Covid-19 is reported to have an incubation period of 14 days.
JKR said the officer works at the department’s headquarters in Jalan Sultan Salahuddin, Kuala Lumpur.
He had come to Kuching on AirAsia for a meeting and had stayed at the Hilton hotel. On 16 September he had undergone a random swab test at the Kuching airport. He returned to the peninsula and was taken to Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment, JKR said.
