ISKANDAR PUTERI: Malaysia’s largest soccer club, Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), recorded RM35 thousand in losses this year due to Covid-19.

Club owner Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim said that at this time he was grateful and satisfied with the achievements of the South Tigres in 2020 after winning their seventh consecutive Malaysian Super League title as well as the Charity Shield.

“For me, this year is a challenging time for us due to Covid-19, which affected the club in terms of financial stability and a great test for us where we must be more prudent when spending next year.

“The club has lost at least RM35 thousand, but I hope that in 2021, God willing, the economy will recover and we can recover what we lost in the next one or two years,” he added.

Tunku Ismail said this at a press conference held at the JDT headquarters near the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium here on Wednesday (October 21).

However, he downplayed the matter and said that JDT was still on track to hit its RM1bil value next year.

Tunku Ismail said the club was 80% in achieving its goals, where they are currently in talks with four major international companies to sponsor the team.

“We are currently finalizing some of the rules to meet your requirements, and I hope that everything can be done by the middle of next year.

“I am grateful that a club like JDT is recognized internationally and this will help us achieve our goal of RM1bil,” he added.
