KOTA KINABALU: PBS has announced a restructuring within the party that led to its secretary general, Jahid Jahim, being appointed interim vice president, filling the Muslim quota of Bumiputera.

Chief Information Officer Joniston Bangkuai will take over as Secretary General, while former Under Secretary General Julita Majungki will become the new Chief Information Officer.

Jahid, who is Sabah’s minister of rural development, joins Radin Malleh (non-Muslim bumiputera quota) and Yee Moh Chai (Chinese quota) as a deputy to PBS President Maximus Ongkili.

Ongkili described the changes as a measure to rejuvenate the party’s leadership.

“By appointing Jahid as number two in the party, it will not only strengthen the Muslim arm of the party, but also ensure that the existing support of the Muslim bumiputera community for PBS will continue,” he said.

“This is also to show that we at PBS have been listening to the demands of all supporters of all ethnicities for a renewal of the leadership of the younger generation.”

Tandek Assemblyman Hendrus Anding was appointed Deputy Secretary General, while Telupid Assemblyman Jonnybone Kurum was appointed Assistant Chief Information Officer. Supreme Council member Mursid Mohd Rais was promoted to vice president, while Samuil Mopun was appointed to the Supreme Council.
