IWK says police reports were also filed once the alleged sources of contamination were identified.

KUALA LUMPUR: Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) Sdn Bhd says it had informed the National Water Services Commission (SPAN), the Selangor State Department of the Environment and the Selayang Municipal Council on the same day it detected illegal sewage at its facilities on November 4.

This comes after Selangor (exco) executive councilor Hee Loy Sian said today that the state government, Luas (Selangor Water Management Authority) and Air Selangor had not been informed of the contamination.

“IWK remains committed and shares information with authorities to address the issue of illegal entry of wastewater into the wastewater treatment plant and hopes that all parties will also help identify the perpetrators of environmental crimes that contaminate our water resources.” he said in a statement.

IWK explained that a report was filed on November 4 and that it had also conducted an investigation with SPAN the following day, during which they identified two suspected sources of contamination.

IWK said that a police report was then filed with the Rawang Police Station and the Gombak District Police Headquarters (IPD) “for further investigation of environmental crimes.”

“Several immediate actions were taken, including the use of a chemical catalyst to improve the process of biological treatment, skimming and removal of contaminated wastewater.”

On November 10, when an illegal wastewater substance was found at the Taman Velox plant, IWK said they immediately transferred the contaminated water to another facility for off-site treatment.
