PKR MP for Subang Wong Chen says the window of opportunity for “political reconfiguration” is gone.

PETALING JAYA: PKR MP for Subang Wong Chen has said the resignation of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and a cabinet shake-up seemed unlikely after Umno reaffirmed his support for the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government last night.

He said that once the Yang di-Pertuan Agong rejected Muhyiddin’s request for a state of emergency, there was a window of opportunity for “political reconfiguration” against the prime minister.

However, this was closed once Umno pledged his support to the PN government.

In a statement on social media today, Wong Chen said, “I don’t think Muhyiddin is going to resign, fire any minister (unless Umno demands it) or call the opposition anytime soon to discuss the budget.”

He also cast doubt on any ongoing reform negotiations and said the opposition was unlikely to receive the same parliamentary resources.

He also said he would most likely “get back to normal”, adding that his office will continue its work in preparation for Parliament’s budget session, which will start on Monday.

In a meeting at the Putra World Trade Center last night, Umno President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that the high council had agreed that its MPs should continue to support the PN government and decided not to work with PKR and DAP.

The council also agreed to strengthen Muafakat Nasional, in which Umno is a partner of PAS and PPBM, led by Muhyiddin.
