PETALING JAYA: People only need to scan the MySejahtera app when entering the store, restroom and surau at gas stations, says the Malaysian Gasoline Dealers Association (PDAM).
Its president, Datuk Khairul Annuar Abdul Aziz, said that the directive they were given was to record only the details of customers when they enter those places.
He clarified that it was not necessary to do so when refueling vehicles.
“What they told us is that we must have the QR code and the temperature control when people enter the stores, the bathroom and the surau.
“Beyond that, there is no need,” he said when contacted on Tuesday (November 10).
He said one of the gas station owners has clarified and confirmed the matter with the Crisis Preparedness and Response Center (CPRC).
“Another thing is that it is dangerous to be on your phone near the fuel pumps. So for security considerations, it is not practical to do so.
“For self-service machines and infrastructure, you don’t need to scan the QR code,” he said.
An email written by the CPRC, spotted by The Star, responding to a query on the matter, also clarified that people only need to scan the QR code when entering a premise.
“Brief encounters, such as filling oil at pump stations or making payments, do not require the MySejahtera app to be scanned,” the email read.
This comes after a viral audio clip of a man who claimed that his father was fined RM 1,000 because he failed to scan the MySejahtera app when he was refueling his vehicle.
