PETALING JAYA: Istana Negara has spoken out against the actions of “certain parties” in using or linking the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the palace to spread “fake news” for political or personal convenience.
In a statement, the Comptroller of the Royal House Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said that the palace took such irresponsible actions seriously.
Without going into details, he referred to false statements made by various individuals on WhatsApp to the media, using the name of the King and his photos.
Such irresponsible acts, Ahmad said, not only damaged the credibility of the King and Istana Negara, but could also generate unrest and threaten peace in the country.
He said the palace will not hesitate to submit a report to the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to take further action.
“At the same time, Istana Negara is calling on people not to panic and create fake news. Istana Negara also calls on people against sharing false news to avoid actions by the police and MCMC, ”he said.
