CITY OF GEORGE: Citations issued by the police to vehicle owners, especially Jelutong residents, to park their vehicles by the road on Tuesday (March 23) were carried out in accordance with rules and regulations.

Penang Police Chief Datuk Sahabudin Abd Manan (pictured) said the operation called ‘Ops Halangan’ was carried out by the police together with the Penang City Council (MBPP) following complaints received from the public about severe congestion in various areas of the Timur Laut district.

In fact, severe congestion has been going on for a long time as residents have parked their vehicles on the side of the (Jalan Slim) road near their homes and obstructing traffic.

“The Police carried out the operation because we received complaints from the public (due to the severe congestion) and we issued 200 citations to those who illegally parked their vehicles in the prohibited areas,” he told the press after attending the celebration of the 214th Police Day today here.

Sahabudin was commenting on a media report that quoted MP RSN Rayer from Jelutong, who wanted the police to clarify why the citations were issued in the area, as he claimed that residents did not obstruct traffic as alleged. Named
