KUALA LUMPUR: The government is considering opening interstate travel, but this will depend on the Covid-19 zone designation of the areas where the trip begins and ends, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Prime Minister (Security) said on Thursday (March 4) that the possibility was being discussed but that there were many issues to be resolved.

“I cannot make any announcements yet, but we are analyzing all the results.

“For example, traveling from one green state to another, like Pahang to Terengganu, both are under recovery OLS, so this may be allowed.

“But problems can also arise, taking the Putrajaya to Melaka trip as an example. Both are in MCO recovery, but one will have to travel through Negri Sembilan, which is on MCO conditional.

“Some may say just don’t stop at Negri, but who will oversee this?” I ask.

He said authorities would have to study the issue carefully before making a decision.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said that those entering Sabah for work or other matters with permission from the police will have to undergo a swab test three days before their trip.

“Only people who test negative and do not show symptoms will be allowed in, and they will not need to be quarantined.

“Those leaving Sabah for the mainland do not need to undergo a hyssop test, but people who want to go to Sarawak and Labuan will also need to undergo a swab test three days before their trip,” he said.

He said that people entering Sarawak with police permission must undergo a swab test three days before their trip and must be quarantined for 14 days once they arrive.

“For the people of Sarawak, the cost of smear tests and quarantine will be borne by the state,” he said, adding that others would have to bear the costs themselves.
