PUTRAJAYA: Police arrested 217 people for various violations of the motion control order (MCO), such as not wearing masks and nightlife activities.
Chief Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that of the 217 people who were detained by the authorities, seven people have been in pre-trial detention.
Another 210 compounds have been released.
“Violations of the MCO include not wearing masks (99 people), failing to provide check-in facilities for customers (60), failing to comply with physical distance rules (31), activities in entertainment establishments ( 17) and others (10), ”Ismail Sabri said in a statement on Thursday (December 10).
Ismail Sabri said that the police, who heads the government’s working group on Standard Operating Compliance (SOP), had conducted a total of 51,908 checks on Wednesday (December 9) to monitor whether people are adhering to the guidelines.
The controls were carried out by almost 3,000 control teams in supermarkets, restaurants, street vendors, factories, banks and government buildings throughout the country.
The defense minister said that in addition to detecting undocumented immigrants entering the country illegally, Ops Benteng is also organized to stop cross-border crime and prevent the transmission of Covid-19 from abroad.
Ismail Sabri also said that there are 12,626 travelers who have arrived in Malaysia who are currently in mandatory quarantine in 77 hotels and 18 public and private institutions.
From July 24 to December 9, a total of 85,838 people entered the country through its different entry points.
Some 72,215 have been able to return home, while 542 have been sent to hospitals for treatment.
The Ministry of Housing and Local Government had also carried out 45 sanitation operations across the country on Wednesday.
Execution officers from the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) also conducted spot checks at 27 construction sites across the country and found no issues with meeting standard operating procedures (SOPs).
The Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Affairs carried out controls in 1,289 stores and found that six did not comply with the SOPs.
