Ismail Sabri: People who test positive for Covid-19 cannot vote in Sabah polls

PETALING JAYA: Those who test positive for Covid-19 are prohibited from voting in upcoming Sabah polls, says Chief Minister (Security Group) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He added that those under a quarantine order can vote, saying that such voters must submit an application to the district health office and that they would be escorted to the polling place.

“Special voting areas are provided for those with (flu-like) symptoms,” he said at a news conference on Tuesday (September 22).

He said that strict protocols were put in place to prevent the creation of a survey group in Sabah.

Ismail Sabri said the Election Commission had also provided different time slots for people to go out to vote to avoid congestion and a longer waiting period.

“Those who were unable to meet the given hours can still vote, but we encourage people to stick to the given hours to avoid congestion (at the voting centers),” he said.

Ismail Sabri also said that those who return to other states after casting votes in Sabah do not need to be quarantined for 14 days.

About the campaign, he said that only one or two activists were allowed into the houses during the house-to-house campaigns, “he said.
