Ismail Sabri: Government Will Study Need To Adjust Inter-State & Inter-District Travel During Conditional MCO

PUTRAJAYA: The government will look at whether there is a need to tighten policy on interdistrict and interstate travel in areas under the conditional MCO, which currently allows people to travel for work, says Chief Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The defense minister also said that the matter should be studied carefully, as the imposition of stricter travel restrictions would have an effect on economic activities.

“We have imposed the work from home policy because we want to limit travel and travel between states or districts, but there are still people whose presence in the office is necessary.

“If we allow people to travel for work, it will not be easy to tighten restrictions at state and district crossings,” he said on Friday (Nov. 13).

Ismail Sabri said the government was aware that the number of Covid-19 cases in Negri Sembilan and Kuala Lumpur is high.

“We will look at this. We will see if there should be any restrictions (on travel). But for now, we will allow crossings between states and districts for work reasons,” he said.

The minister was asked to comment on concerns raised by Health Director General Tan Sri Noor Hisham Abdullah about the increase in new Covid-19 cases in the Klang Valley and Seremban.

He pointed out that almost all of the Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya districts are now declared Covid-19 red zones and that it is more difficult to monitor the movement of people in the Klang Valley, which has a population of around six million.
