KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob criticized Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi for allegedly insulting the Malaysian security forces and claiming that the Lahad Datu incident was a mere political tactic.
The Chief Minister (Security) said that the statement by politician Parti Warisan Sabah that the incident was a “drama” for the political achievements of certain parties is a grave insult to the security forces.
“He is also tainted by his sacrifices, especially 10 staff members who lost their lives during the 2013 incident.
“All the security forces, especially the armed forces and the police, know the truth of the incident and no one has questioned its validity,” he said in a statement on Monday (September 21).
Although the nation just celebrated the 87th Armed Forces Day, the politician’s statement reflected how he did not understand and even disrespected the sacrifices of the country’s security forces, he added.
“All parties must not touch on sensitive issues, especially on security and sovereignty, which could provoke anger and discomfort in others,” Ismail Sabri said.
Mohamaddin has since apologized and claimed that his comments were taken out of context.
“I would never insult and never make fun of the security forces,” Warisan’s candidate for the Segama state seat had said Monday.
He said the video showing a short clip of him allegedly insulting security forces in the intrusion was taken out of context as it did not show his entire speech.
“However, I would like to sincerely apologize if anyone, especially our security forces, feels insulted or hurt by that part of my speech,” he said in a statement.
