KUALA LUMPUR: Police and local authorities have been advised to crack down on nightclub and pub owners, or venue owners who disobey restrictions under the motion control order.

Such action should include taking business owners to court or withdrawing their operating licenses, Chief Minister (Security) Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.

He said that RMCO violations involving nightclub and pub activities continued to record the highest number of violations even though these facilities were still on the prohibited operations list.

“Every day the number of arrests involving activities in nightclubs and pubs is high; These locations are still on the prohibited operations list due to difficulty in controlling physical distancing and other procedures.

“I have asked the local authorities if these places have licenses, (and if they do) we ask them to revoke their licenses and to close the companies … perhaps stronger measures can be taken by taking them to court for a more severe sentence, like incarceration, “he said.

He said there have been no discussions so far about allowing nightclubs and pubs to resume operations. “Until now, it is not (allowed to operate) yet. In some previous discussions, it wasn’t ready (to be opened), ”he said.

On the inspection of commercial facilities for compliance with SOPs, Ismail Sabri said that according to daily reports received, no arrests were made against commercial facilities in relation to SOP violations.

“To date, no measures have been taken in this regard in many commercial premises. Only a few have been doing business beyond the stipulated hours, but no arrests have been made, so I assume no arrests have been made for non-compliance.

“However, many are still confused in terms of positions at dining room tables … each individual sitting at the dining room table must have a physical distance no matter how large the table is,” he said.

Ismail Sabri reiterated that there was quarantine for those who returned from Sabah.

“It will only be done if the state is declared a red zone … as long as all of Sabah is not declared a red zone, it is not necessary that we impose a quarantine, however, the Ministry of Health will carry out a study from time to time according to the number of cases, ”he said.
