KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 672 people have been detained for violating the rules of the movement control order (MCO), says Chief Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said the number was more than double that of those arrested on Friday at 249, showing that many still take Covid-19 lightly.

Of the total, 643 were fined and 29 people in preventive detention.

“Among the crimes committed are carrying out activities in entertainment centers that involve 442 people, not wearing masks (90), not practicing physical distancing (78), not providing equipment to record customer data (37) and others (25), “he said.

In Op Benteng, Ismail Sabri said 83 illegal immigrants and a captain were arrested, three ground vehicles seized, while 118 roadblocks were established on Saturday.

He said seven construction sites across the country were also inspected and found to have followed established standard operating procedures to curb the pandemic.

Ismail Sabri noted that the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) had conducted 14,007 inspections at 8,000 construction sites across the country from April 20 to yesterday. – Bernama
