Ismail Sabri: 600+ compounds released to break OLS

PETALING JAYA: More than 600 people were arrested for violating the motion control order (MCO) on Thursday (October 22).

Chief Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the police handed over compounds to 634 people, while four others were arrested and one was released on bail.

“Violations include failing to practice physical distancing, failing to wear masks, and failing to provide record-keeping facilities at the facility entrance and also being in entertainment venues,” it said in a statement on Friday (October 23). .

Separately, Ismail Sabri said that more than 52,841 people returned to Malaysia from abroad between July 24 and October 22, and 381 tested positive for Covid-19 and were sent for treatment.

He said 8,196 more people underwent mandatory quarantine and 44,264 people were discharged.

“They came from 35 countries, including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Singapore, Vietnam, Brunei and Laos,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said authorities at Op Benteng, which launched to protect the country’s borders against illegal entry, arrested 38 illegal immigrants on Thursday.

In the joint operation involving the Armed Forces, the police, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), the Immigration Department, the Royal Customs Department and the Malaysian Border Control Agency, two ships and three land vehicles.

Ismail Sabri said that the authorities had erected 300 barricades.

“The government will crack down on anyone who tries to invade the country’s borders, and the authorities will continue to strictly monitor the borders, especially those known to be secret entry points,” he said.
