Ismail Sabri: 584 Arrested for Violating MCO Recovery on Wednesday (Sep 16)

PUTRAJAYA: A total of 584 people were arrested for violating the Recovery Movement Control Order (MCO), including violation of social distancing and not wearing masks in crowded public places.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that of those arrested, 16 people were detained following police control and surveillance activities on Wednesday (September 16).

Police also caught 292 pubs and nightclub goers, and 17 shop owners who did not provide their customers with check-in facilities, raiding and operating beyond the allowed hours.

Ismail Sabri said there were 2,713 monitoring teams run by the police to verify compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“The teams had checked supermarkets, restaurants, merchants, factories, banks, and government offices to make sure all SOPs are being followed,” he said on Thursday (September 17).

At Ops Benteng, Ismail Sabri said 65 illegal immigrants were arrested, along with three tekongs and human traffickers, respectively.

“Of the number, 27 illegals were arrested at Bandar Penawar in Johor for attempting to leave the country via an unknown route.

“Meanwhile, in Rantau Panjang, Kelantan, the police arrested a local suspected of being involved in smuggling activities,” he said.

On the mandatory quarantine imposed since July 24, Ismail Sabri said that to date 29,748 have had to undergo quarantine at designated centers.

As of Wednesday, 20,160 people who had returned from 32 countries were allowed to return home after completing the quarantine process.

The minister also said that since March 30, the Ministry of Housing and Local Government has supervised 9,980 sanitation exercises in 135 zones.

To date, 13,011 premises have been cleaned up, including business centers, government buildings, housing areas, public places and supermarkets.
