Ismail Sabri: 487 arrested for violating SOP on Sunday (Dec 6)

PUTRAJAYA: A total of 487 people have been arrested by the police for committing various violations of standard operating procedures (SOPs), including participating in activities at entertainment venues.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that the police reported that 94 of the criminals were caught in entertainment centers on Sunday (December 6), which is still on the negative list of activities under the control order of movement (MCO).

He said that on the number of arrests, 470 people were added, while another 17 were detained.

Among other offenses were the lack of practice of social distancing (205), not wearing masks in crowded public places (77), not registering the details of clients (59) and others (52).

The working group that oversees SOP compliance carried out 51,319 checks, including supermarkets (3,476), restaurants (4,545), factories (1,283) and banks (3,131).

The working group had also verified 512 government offices, 949 land transport terminals, 247 maritime terminals and 81 air transport terminals.

“The Benteng operations carried out by the police authorities on Sunday also saw 25 illegal immigrants and one Tekong arrested.

“There will be no commitment to protect the country’s borders, not only against foreigners who try to smuggle into the country, but also against Covid-19,” he said on Monday (December 7).

Under mandatory quarantine, as of July 24, 83,164 people had returned to Malaysia and were quarantined at designated facilities.

Ismail Sabri said that to date, 70,698 people had completed the 14-day quarantine and had been allowed to return home.

People had returned from 36 countries, including Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Japan, Turkey, South Korea, China, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States and France.

Ismail Sabri said that since April 20, the enforcement authorities of the Construction Industry Development Board had inspected 7,930 sites.

On Sunday, compliance with SOPs was verified at 15 construction sites and authorities reported full compliance with the SOP and the sites that were inspected.
