Ismail Sabri: 312 Arrested for Violating MCO Reclamation, Including 70 at Nightclubs

PUTRAJAYA: A total of 312 people were arrested for violations of the recovery movement control order, of which 70 were captured in pubs and nightclubs.

Chief Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (Photo) said that 31 were caught for prostitution, illegal immigrants (seven), breach of social distancing (143) and for not wearing a mask (23).

Police also took action against a business owner for operating beyond the permitted hours and against 37 store owners for failing to provide customers with equipment to record their presence.

The arrests were made on Thursday (September 10).

“Under Ops Benteng, the authorities had successfully captured 84 illegal immigrants, a smuggler and a ship captain.

“There will be continued action by law enforcement authorities to stop the illegal entry of foreigners.

“We will also crack down on those who facilitate the clandestine entry of illegal immigrants into the country,” he said on Friday (September 11).

On the mandatory quarantine requirements imposed since July 24, Ismail Sabri said that a total of 26,999 people had returned to Malaysia to date.

There are currently 10,266 people who are in quarantine in hotels and public training institutes.

He also said that on Thursday, the Ministry of Housing and Local Government carried out six sanitation operations in Kedah, four in Penang, three in Melaka and Sabah respectively, two in Sarawak and one in Negri Sembilan and Pahang.
