Ismail Sabri: 248 compounds issued for violating MCO regulations, one forwarded

PETALING JAYA: Police arrested 249 people for failing to comply with movement control order (MCO) regulations on Friday (December 18), says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Defense Minister said that the crimes include non-compliance with physical distancing (132 people), not wearing masks (63 people) and not leaving contact details (54 people).

“A total of 248 people received compounds and one was detained,” it said in a statement on Saturday (December 19).

The Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Compliance Task Force also conducted 47,811 verifications, involving 3,549 supermarkets, 4,761 restaurants, 1,794 street vendors, 1,144 factories, 3,321 banks, and 548 government offices.

“A total of 962 land transport terminals, 245 water transport terminals, as well as 111 air transport terminals were also monitored,” he said.

Ismail said police authorities captured 46 illegal immigrants, two tekongs (captains) and seized eight ground vehicles, with 118 roadblocks installed on Friday.

Meanwhile, public sanitation operations, which are regulated by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, have been carried out 12,834 times since March 30 in 137 areas.

“A total of 14,600 stores have been cleaned up, involving 2,921 business centers, 1,690 residential areas including PPR, 2,905 public places, 357 supermarkets and 6,727 government buildings,” he said.

On Friday, he said, 40 sanitation operations were carried out in 14 red zones, three orange zones, 12 yellow zones and three green zones, involving 11 states and two federal territories.

In terms of mandatory quarantines, a total of 88,827 people who returned to the country between July 24 and December 18 were quarantined at 73 hotels and 16 public training institutes and private educational institutes throughout the country.

“Of the total, 8,357 people are still in mandatory quarantine, while 532 people have been sent to hospital for treatment.

“A total of 79,938 people were allowed to return to their homes. People had returned from 36 countries, including Cambodia, Thailand, India and others, ”he said.
