Ismail Sabri: 196 issued composed of violating MCO on December 16

PUTRAJAYA: The police have captured 196 people for various violations of the movement control order (MCO), such as not wearing masks.

In a statement, Chief Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that all 196 people received compounds.

“Among the infractions are the lack of registration facilities for clients (88 people), not wearing masks (86), non-compliance with the rules of physical distancing (eight) and other infractions (14)”, said Ismail Sabri .

Ismail Sabri said that the police, who heads the government’s working group on SOP compliance, had conducted a total of 40,928 checks on Wednesday (December 16) to monitor whether people are adhering to the Covid-19 guidelines.

The controls were carried out by 2,960 control teams in supermarkets, restaurants, street vendors, factories, banks and government buildings throughout the country.

Ismail Sabri also said 59 undocumented immigrants have been arrested, while three ground vehicles were seized under Ops Benteng on Wednesday.

118 barricades were also set up across the country.

The operations are aimed at catching undocumented immigrants entering the country illegally and at the same time preventing the transmission of Covid-19 from abroad.

Ismail Sabri also said that there are 9,004 travelers who have arrived in Malaysia who are currently in mandatory quarantine in 76 hotels and 16 public and private institutions.

From July 24 to December 16, a total of 87,522 people entered the country through its different entry points.

About 77,986 have been able to return home, while 532 have been sent to hospitals for treatment.

The Ministry of Housing and Local Government had also carried out 38 sanitation operations across the country on Wednesday.

Execution officers from the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) also conducted spot checks at 24 construction sites across the country and found no issues with SOP compliance.

The Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Affairs carried out special checks on 705 stores and found that all but one were compliant with SOPs.
