PETALING JAYA: Despite nine months of “new normal”, there are still those who remain indifferent to following standard operating procedures (SOPs) to curb the spread of Covid-19, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Chief Minister (Security) said police arrested 329 people on Monday (November 23) for violating standard operating procedures such as wearing a mask and maintaining physical distancing.

“Of that number, 311 were turned over with compounds, five were arrested and another 13 were released on bail,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (November 24).

He said 131 were detained for not wearing masks, while 59 more did not maintain a physical distance of at least one meter.

Ismail Sabri also said that 50 business owners did not set up the facility to record customer details.

Another 38 people were punished for crossing state and district lines without permission and 51 more were punished for other crimes.

He said authorities also arrested 88 illegal immigrants and five ship captains under Op Benteng, which aims to protect the country’s borders from being invaded.

In the operation on Monday (November 23), authorities also seized 13 ground vehicles and set up 261 barricades at locations believed to be used as illegal entry points.

Furthermore, Ismail Sabri said that between July 24 and November 23, 73,713 people have returned to Malaysia.

It said 10,152 people underwent mandatory quarantine, while 405 were sent to the hospital for treatment and another 63,156 were allowed to go home.

Those who returned to Malaysia were from 36 countries, including the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Singapore, Vietnam, Laos and Brunei.
