Police had reportedly said that people risked a fine of RM 1,000 if they did not register on the MySejahtera app when filling up at self-service kiosks.

KUALA LUMPUR: Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has confirmed that it is not necessary to scan the MySejahtera app when refueling if people do not enter the station store to pay for gasoline.

This follows conflicting reports on whether people should scan the app’s QR code even if they were paying at gas stations or at the store locker.

“For people who carry out transactions inside the gas station store, whether it is to buy gasoline or merchandise in the store or to withdraw money from the ATM, they must register in MySejahtera or manually,” he said today at a press conference.

He added that those who use the station restroom or surau must register, either with the app or manually.

Ismail added that those who paid through lockers at the cashier for gasoline or diesel without entering the store would not need to scan MySejahtera’s QR code or register manually.

“They do not meet personally with the cashier and are separated by the glass locker,” he said.

He added that customers who send their cars to any on-site car wash shop or service and need to wait or pay for services in person must register.

Meanwhile, those who chose automatic car wash services without face-to-face transactions would not be required to do so.

Previous reports quoted Bukit Aman’s CID Deputy Director Mior Faridalathrash Wahid as saying that even those who were at the gas station to refuel, without entering the station office or convenience store, had to scan the QR code using the app. MySejahtera.

Earlier today, the Crisis Preparedness and Response Center (CPRC) clarified that it is not necessary to do so.
