SIBU: More than three weeks after her death in Taiwan, student Irene Chung was finally buried at Nirvana Memorial Park here on Saturday (November 21).
The funeral service was conducted following a strict Covid-19 standard operating procedure. Only 80 people were allowed, although the room could accommodate up to 200 people.
Family and friends were present at the ceremony.
In his praise, Chung’s older brother Daniel said that Irene always cared about others.
“She was kind and caring. She never forgot our birthdays. Together we always discussed what to buy for our parents’ birthday, even when she was in Taiwan,” he said.
Irene’s friend Bryan Hii remembered her as a good and religious person who was always there to help her friends.
Chung, 24, a student at Chiang Jung Christian University in Tainan, Taiwan, was found dead on October 29.
According to a CNA report, the suspect confessed to strangling her and throwing her body away.
His parents, Desmond Chung and Ting Ching Ching, had flown to Taiwan on October 30 to bring his remains, which had been placed in an urn.
