KUALA LUMPUR: Statements have been recorded in the investigation into what have been considered false accusations that the Speaker of the Melaka State Assembly, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, had sexually assaulted a hotel employee, police say.

“We have taken CCTV footage from the site in question and we are tracking those who made the posting,” said Bukit Aman CID Director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed.

“Various statements have been registered, including those that had been alleged in the publication,” he told a news conference in Bukit Aman on Wednesday (October 21).

The message that went viral on social media claimed that Ab Rauf had allegedly attempted to sexually abuse a hotel employee at Ayer Keroh on October 2.

He also claimed that Ab Rauf had tried to cover up the incident by persuading the alleged victim with “large payments” as an incentive not to file a police report.

The message also alleged that the hotel management had asked the alleged victim not to file a police report.

Instead, the alleged victim filed a report at the Ayer Keroh Police Station on Monday (October 19) denying the accusation and nullifying the claims of attempted sexual assault.

The investigation was opened under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act of 1998, police said previously.
