KOTA KINABALU: The problem of Internet access, even in Sabah, is in fact on the government’s radar, which must be improved to improve coverage and services, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah.
He said that among the problems that had been identified was the lack of telecommunications towers and geographic location, but it was not an excuse for not planning and improving services to ensure that the community, especially young people, could access them.
“Young people, including those in Sabah, really need it (access to the Internet). We are aware of the problem and will try to solve it, ”he said after the new office of the Sabah chapter of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) officiated today.
Saifuddin said it was the intention of the Perikatan Nasional government to increase Internet access across the country, including in Sabah, hence the launch of Gerbang Sabah, a crucial component under the National Digital Network (Jendela) initiative yesterday.
Gerbang Sabah is an Internet connection point between Sabah and the rest of the world that will further drive development and progress in the state, as well as preparing people for a future based on innovations and technology. – Named
