KUALA LUMPUR: Police will open Investigation Document (IP) on alleged involvement of senior officers and police officers with detainees in connection with the Macau scam and online gambling syndicate based on information from Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission ( MACC), said Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador.

He said police were waiting for more information from the MACC to complete the investigation of the case.

“Currently, senior PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police) officers with links to the Macau scam and online gambling receive posts that are not confidential, but that doesn’t mean it ends there. I will consider more actions when I have the information, ”he told Bernama.

Meanwhile, the director of Bukit Aman’s Department of Integrity and Standards Compliance, Datuk Zamri Yahya, said that so far 24 officers and policemen are being investigated in connection with the case.

“Now, we are in the process of filing statements and collecting evidence about his alleged involvement in the case.

“Once we have completed the investigation, we will make recommendations to the disciplinary authorities so that they are punished if there is clear and conclusive evidence of their participation in the union,” he added.

In the same development, Bukit Aman Management Department Director Datuk Ramli Din said that confidential positions in PDRM could be rotated more frequently, for only three years for each position, compared to the current five years, to avoid misconduct among senior officers and law enforcement personnel.

“Rotation by changing officers for sensitive positions will be done at all levels, involving high-ranking police officers at the lowest level,” he said, defining sensitive positions as those that involved operations and raids. .

He said background checks and records are always conducted on members of the police force to determine their eligibility and integrity for the position.

Last Monday, Bernama reported that senior PDRM officials were among those who were taken into account on suspicion of having ties to people who were arrested in connection with the Macao Scam syndicate and online gambling.

The case triggered a major reshuffle in the police force, involving more than 20 police officers, including senior officers. -Called
