Inspector Pleads Not Guilty to CBT Charge Involving RM190k

IPOH: A police inspector claimed trial in the Court of Sessions here for committing criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving more than RM190,000 six years ago.

Sahrol Zaman Mohd Adom, 38, pleaded not guilty after an interpreter read the charges before the judge, Mohd Fauzi Mohd Nasir.

He was charged under Section 409 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years, flogging and a fine upon conviction.

According to the charge sheet, Sahrol, in his capacity as an investigating officer at the Ipoh District Police Headquarters, was entrusted with items seized from a Simpang Pulai case involving cash worth RM 190,721.

It is alleged that he committed the crime in the store of the headquarters criminal investigation division, where the objects seized on April 11, 2014 were kept.

Deputy Prosecutor Nur Farhana Hashim said that in view of the seriousness of the crime, she was requesting a higher bail.

Sahrol’s attorney said his client had to care for his parents, wife and two 12-year-old twins.

“I request that a bond of RM5,000 be set,” he added.

The judge set a bond at RM8,000 with a bond and set September 25 for his mention.
