PETALING JAYA: Election regulator Bersih 2.0 has urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate the alleged incentive to voters by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
In a statement today, Bersih cited news reports about Muhyiddin handing out mock checks for more than RM60 million to representatives of fishermen and farmers at an event in Beaufort, Sabah, yesterday.
“Section 10 (a) of the Election Offenses Act of 1954 states that any person who during an election gives money or any valuable consideration to induce voters to vote for a candidate shall be deemed to have committed the crime of bribery.
“It was also reported that in his (Muhyiddin) speech at the Beaufort event, he reiterated his call that the people of Sabah should vote for the same parties that hold power in Putrajaya.”
Bersih claimed that Muhyiddin was trying to induce voters in Sabah to vote for parties and candidates aligned with the Perikatan Nasional government.
Likewise, he urged the public present at said event to present police complaints about what they heard.
