Indonesia Arrested for Armed Robbery of US Speaker

KUALA LUMPUR: An Indonesian man has been arrested for the armed robbery of an American woman near Jalan Ritchie here.

The 39-year-old woman, who works as a teacher at an international school in Jalan Ampang Hilir, was walking from her home located about 300 meters from the school, when the incident occurred around 10 am on Thursday (September 10).

Wangsa Maju OCPD Supt Rajab Ahad Ismail said the suspect approached the woman with a knife and demanded her valuables.

“Fearing for his safety, he complied and handed over a mobile phone, laptop, and RM40 in cash to the suspect.

“Some bystanders came to his aid and the suspect fled the scene,” he said in a statement on Friday (September 11).

He added that a police team from the Wangsa Maju (D9) CID serious crimes unit located and subsequently arrested an Indonesian man at a house in Jalan Kampung Pandan here on the same day.

“When we arrested the suspect, we found a mobile phone that belonged to the victim.

“The suspect has been in custody for five days to help with the investigations,” he said, adding that the case was classified as armed robbery.

Supt Rajab thanked the public for sharing information about the incident, which led directly to the arrest of the suspect.
